Uzma Horizons

Last year, during our summer holidays, we went on a trip to Italy. Our main plan was to spend most of our time around the Dolomites, but our son suggested that if we could visit Venice for one day, it would also be a great idea. We decided to do it, and it turned out to be such a good decision.

It was a hot summer day in July and rain was expected. When we started our day in Venice, it rained for about an hour. Luckily, the weather soon became perfect, and we were able to spend the rest of the day walking around and exploring the charming and colourful streets of Venice.

We enjoyed walking through different streets, crossing little bridges and stopping to enjoy the lovely views along the canals. Seeing Venice from the main bridge was beautiful, and of course, we also enjoyed a gondola ride. It was a different experience to explore the city this way and then continue walking through its streets.

One of our favourite things about travelling as a family is buying a souvenir from every place we visit. This has become our main kind of holiday shopping. We prefer spending our time exploring the places we visit rather than going to different shopping centers. We have followed this way of travelling for several years, and we are very happy with it. Our kids are grown up now, and sometimes they find something they really like for themselves, so they may quickly buy that too.

We also had extremely delicious pizza at a lovely restaurant in Venice. We preferred sitting outside so we could enjoy the pleasant weather and the atmosphere around us. Later, while walking through the city, we came across a lovely dance performance in front of a restaurant. The music and dancing gave the street such a lively and vibrant atmosphere, and it was one of those unexpected moments that made our day even more enjoyable.

We also spent some time around Piazza San Marco, with the beautiful St. Mark’s Basilica, the open square and the magnificent buildings around it. There were many well known shops in the area, and the whole place was lively with people walking around and enjoying the evening. Later, we heard an orchestra playing familiar soundtracks, including music from James Bond 007 and The Lord of the Rings. It was a lovely addition to the evening and something we really enjoyed listening to.

By the end of the day, I realised how much we had enjoyed our time in Venice, but one day was simply not enough. There was still so much more I wanted to see and explore.

I would definitely like to visit Venice again. Next time, I would love to spend two or three days there so we could explore more of this fascinating city without having to rush.

I know I have shared quite a lot of photographs from Venice, but I simply could not decide which views to leave out. Every corner, every canal and every street looked so different that I wanted to share as many of them as I could with you. I hope you enjoy seeing Venice through all these different views as much as I enjoyed photographing them.
